B3-Grad

b3 website

The B3 Workforce Development Program is a career and employment initiative for Greater Milwaukee high school students. This six-month program is conducted in partnership by the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee, Bublr Bikes & DreamBikes. B3 aims to provide young people with valuable job training, work experience, and certification as bike mechanics.

Phase 1 - BGC B!kes

During Phase 1, students spend eight weeks at the Boys & Girls Club Bike Shop, known as BGC B!KE, located at the Milwaukee Academy of Science. By completely overhauling a bike, students learn the essentials of bicycle repair and maintenance. Upon completing Phase 1, they get to keep the bike they worked on. Successful students become eligible for further training in Phase 2 at Bublr Bikes.

Phase 2 - Bublr Bikes
At Bublr Bikes HQ, students stay for eight weeks, specializing in maintaining bikeshare bikes, repairing Bublr Bikes, learning about system balancing, and enhancing their customer service skills. After completing this phase, they move on to Phase 3 at DreamBikes.

Phase 3 - DreamBikes
During the eight weeks at DreamBikes, students gain exposure to a retail environment. They expand their bike repair skills across a wider range and develop soft skills through customer interactions. Completion of this phase prepares them for the final BCycle written exam.

adaptive

Adaptive Bike Program

Providing adaptive equipment is a vital aspect of Bublr’s mission to create a sustainable and inclusive bike share system for all.

In 2018, the City of Milwaukee convened a workgroup to determine the most effective adaptive bike components to serve our community. Over eight meetings, the workgroup facilitated discussions and gathered input from numerous community members and advocacy organizations. The consensus was clear: accessible bikes should be seamlessly integrated into the system with minimal differences from standard bikes.

In 2019, Bublr launched its adaptive bike program with strong support from the City of Milwaukee, the City of Wauwatosa, the Ability Center, and the Anthem Foundation. The program introduced upright tricycles, hand-cycles, and side-by-side tricycles to the Bublr system. In 2022, grants from the Astor Street Foundation and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation enabled Bublr to expand and enhance its adaptive fleet.

The Bublr team remains committed to ensuring that adaptive bikes are readily available at Hart Park, Estabrook Park, and South Shore Park, ensuring accessibility across our network.

Want to know where adaptive bikes currently are? Want to have one locked down for you? You can call or text Bublr Bikes at 414-931-1121.

environment

Environment

Transportation accounts for nearly 30% of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. Addressing climate change requires tackling these emissions. A 2019 study by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy found that including robust bicycling options in sustainable transportation plans can cut emissions by an additional 11%. Bikeshares, like Bublr in Milwaukee, is crucial for achieving this reduction.

Since 2014, Bublr has cut over 817 tons of CO2 emissions and serves as a link to public transit systems like MCTS and The Hop. This connectivity multiplies its environmental impact. With 80% of Bublr stations near MCTS stops and 60% near streetcar stops, plus a station at Milwaukee's Intermodal station, Bublr facilitates seamless multimodal journeys. Introducing e-assist bikes enhances this synergy, expanding access to jobs without increasing commute times.

Bublr also reduces the barrier to cycling by offering affordable memberships. For less than $600, users get bikes that are reliable, weather-ready, and suitable for urban terrain—a much cheaper alternative to cars or purchasing a bike outright. Membership options, including free access for income-qualified riders and discounted rates for students, promote accessibility.

Moreover, Bublr drives investment in bicycle infrastructure, fostering safer and more appealing cycling environments. This encourages more people to cycle, especially those concerned about safety. As people gain confidence on Bublr bikes, they may transition to cycling in other settings or advocate for improved biking infrastructure.
