Talk Around the Bublr - November

by James Davies | Nov 30, 2022

Winter Operations

Winter weather came in this week so it's time for an update on winter operations. Bublr will be brining all the electric assist bicycles in on December 4th. The cold is hard on the batteries and the salt water is hard on the batteries and the electric motor. The electric assist bicycles will all be back out on the streets all clean and fully charged for you in March. As in previous years we will be shutting down are lowest use stations this winter you can always find out which stations are operational on our website map, or in either of our mobile apps.

B3 Graduation

Another group of students graduated from our B3 Program recently. The students pictured started at the Boys & Girls Club back in May and completed 8 weeks at Boys & Girls Club, 8 weeks at DreamBikes, and 8 weeks at Bublr. Each student earned a professional tool kit, and a bikeshare certification that is recognized by BCycle, Bublr's equipment supplier. Huge thank you to their instructors throughout the program, Kolin, Gabe, Kadeam, Stefhon and Michael. It's especially cool because Gabe, Kadeam, Stefhon, and Michael are all previous program graduates now working in the bike industry.

Giving Tuesday and End of the Year Support

Bublr is a nonprofit and our user revenue only covers about a third of our operational costs. Donations are essential for Bublr to be able to continue doing things like keep our passes affordable, our bikes on the street in the winter, have a free Access Pass for income qualified people, and run programs like the B3 Program. Please consider making a donation so Bublr can continue providing affordable bikeshare, offering great programs, and making biking safer for everyone.

Designing Downtown's Future!

The "Connec+ing MKE - Downtown Plan 2040" is still ongoing. This plan will shape the next two decades of development, policies, and programs for Milwaukee's downtown. The next open house is Wednesday, December 7th from 3:30pm to 6:30pm at the 3rd Street Market Hall (275 W. Wisconsin Ave.). You can also still submit comments on the interactive map and the idea wall. Bublr thinks adding protected bike infrastructure to 6th street would be great for biking in Milwaukee. 6th Street on the south side of the city already has adequate bike infrastructure for the traffic levels and 6th Street connects to the Hank Aaron State Trail. As such, installing protected bike lanes on the downtown portion of 6th Street could be a transformational connector to the rest of the city.
