Bublr Basics

What is Bublr Bikes?

“Bublr Bikes” is the name of Milwaukee’s bike share program, a technology-supported system of bicycles that can be rented for short, quick trips around Milwaukee’s central business district and adjoining neighborhoods. Riders can take out a bike at any station, pay for it with credit card or prepaid membership, and return the bike to any other station. Each station holds ~10 bikes. Most stations will be no more than ¼ mile apart.

What's the cost to use Bublr Bikes?

It depends! If you want to ride once or twice, purchase a $3 Single Ride at any Bublr Station. If you’re a frequent user, snag a Bublr Pass:

Pay As You Go: $2/One-Time Charge; $2/Ride (up to 30 minutes)

30-Day Pass: $15/Month (up to 60-minute rides)

Annual Pass: $80/Year (up to 60-minute rides)

Where can I find Bublr Stations?

Right here! It’s our goal to reach other neighborhoods that could include Walker’s Point, Bay View, King Drive, Brady Street, the Menomonee Valley, and the East Side. In 2016, we hope to reach suburbs including West Allis, Wauwatosa, and Shorewood. Bublr Bikes will build out based on community and business feedback, employment clusters, population density, and proximity to existing transportation.

I'd like to visit Milwaukee. How do I use Bublr Bikes?

You can buy a 30-Day Bublr Pass here. As soon as you’ve made the purchase, you can use your credit card to check out a Bublr Bike at any Bublr Station! It’s important to note: you’ll need to use the same credit card to purchase the pass and check out the Bublr Bike; it’s the only way we’re able to know who you are. When you leave Milwaukee, be sure to cancel your Bublr Pass so you’re not charged every month!

If you have an Annual Pass for a bikeshare program in another city, you may be able to ride Bublr for free! Check out our partner cities.

Do Bublr Bikes riders need to wear helmets?

Many of our riders have helmets – workers and residents bring their own. We strongly encourage all cyclists to ride as cautiously as possible, whether or not they use helmets.

Does Bublr Bikes have bicycles available for people with disabilities?

Bublr’s bikes are designed to be usable by as many people as possible. They have low, step-through frames and an upright seating posture. They also have three speeds to make tackling hills easier. If you have more specific accessibility needs Independence First and Milwaukee Recreation both have DUET bikes that can be borrowed free of charge. For more information about these programs please contact Independence First at 414-226-8112 or Milwaukee Recreation at 414-647-6043. If you have any specific accessibility questions, don’t hesitate to contact Team Bublr.

How old do I need to be to ride a Bublr Bike?

You’ll need to be at least 14 years old to use Bublr Bikes.

How do I use the lock on a Bublr Bike?

The cable locks (coiled in the basket) are intended to lock up your Bublr Bike for a short stop, like picking up a prescription at the pharmacy, for instance.

Here’s a handy video from our colleagues in Denver that explains how to use the lock.

Remember: Your Bublr Bikes trip doesn’t end until you’ve returned the bike to a Bublr Station.

Good Things to Know

Can I Bublr to Summerfest and other Milwaukee festivals?

Absolutely! For Summerfest, ride your Bublr right to our Discovery World station. It’s a 2-minute walk to/from the North Gate. We’ll be at Discovery World to dock and check out Bublr Bikes, plus hand out swag. For other festivals, Bublr to Discovery World or Jefferson / Menomonee (located near the Main Gate), whichever is more convenient.

What is Bublr’s operating season?

Bublr Bikes are available year round. We suspend service when the City of Milwaukee declares a snow emergency and may suspend network service for any other weather condition at our discretion.

How will Bublr Bikes handle Milwaukee’s winters?

We maintain our bikes on a regular basis and wipe them of salt and grime. We remove snow from around our stations too, and check to make sure they’re working correctly.

Can I ride a Bublr on the sidewalk?

Please do not. It’s actually illegal for an adult to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk in the City of Milwaukee.
